Q: I have a cell phone that I can use while I am on the Internet. Is that OK?

A: We require that the phone you use be a regular, corded phone, with a corded headset. In order to maximize security and sound quality, we do not allow our CCPs to use cell phones, cordless phones, or VoIP phones to connect with our systems.

Q: What type of telephone service is acceptable?

A: We require CCPs to use a Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) that uses copper wire to the home. Alpine Access does not allow CCPs to use VoIP telephone service that transports calls over any public network as it has potential quality and security issues that are not encountered with POTS. Cable services that are delivered to the home without accessing a public network are acceptable.

Q: Why can’t I use my IP (VoIP) phone?

A: We are very excited about the potential of IP telephony, and use it extensively within our protected and controlled internal network. However, due to security and sound quality issues, we do not allow our CCPs to use IP phones to connect with our systems at this time. We continue to explore this for future implementation.

Q: Are there other requirements besides those listed on your web site?

A: It is possible that the client program you are a strong fit for will require a background, credit, and/or drug check. A minimal flat fee for the screens will be required by the applicant after job offer.

Also, you must have the right computer setup, the ability to be on a corded telephone line, with a corded headset, while on the internet (but not a VoIP phone), a corded headset (specifications will be provided to you if you are selected). a quiet work environment throughout your entire shift, and a bank account for us to deposit your pay.

Lastly, Alpine Access now requires that ALL new employees successfully pass this background check. The cost of this step is a payment of $35.00. This payment can be made by credit card or check card and is handled securely online by our reputable background check partner. Again, this is NOT an up-front fee; we only require people who have been offered a position with the company to complete this step of the process. Please note that some programs also require a drug test. There is no additional charge for drug testing.

Q: I meet all the requirements you are looking for except I have a Macintosh rather than a PC/Windows computer. Is working on a Mac platform acceptable?

A: Sorry, but we do not support platforms other than Microsoft Windows 2000 (or higher) and Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later). It’s not that we have anything against Macs or other Internet browsers; we simply have not been able to justify building the support network for those additional options.

Q: What ISP (MSN, AOL, Earthlink, etc) should I use for my high speed internet access?

A: We do not specify any ISP, but require that it provides consistent “up” time and that you have an unlimited use package. Unfortunately, a wireless connection or satellite broadband do not meet our requirements. You must currently have a land based internet service.

Q: Are my home set-up expenses tax deductible?

A: Please contact a professional tax advisor for the answer to the question.

Q: I’m willing to have a high speed internet connection (or extra phone line) installed, but before I buy it can I apply for a job, and then when approved have it installed?

A: In many cases, we hire CCPs with the intention of having them start training within a few days. For that reason, we need to be certain that candidates already have the necessary home set-up prior to offering a position.

Q: Does Alpine Access provide me with a computer?

A: Although some programs require using a deployed machine, we expect applicants to have access to their own PC that meets our minimum requirements.

Q: Does Alpine Access provide me with a headset?

A: No, we ask that you have an acceptable headset for work. Acceptable specifications - The hands-free headset must meet these minimum requirements:

  • The headset must be comfortable.
  • The headset must be hands-free.
  • The headset must be corded. All cordless headsets are unacceptable. Corded headsets attached to cordless phones are also unacceptable.
  • The headset must contain a “noise canceling” microphone.
  • The headset must contain a mute button.

You will need to have access to a headset that meets these requirements before you start training - prices range from $25-$100.
